The demise of New York City has officially begun

Ever since Zohran Mamdani won the mayoral election in New York City on November 4th, most level headed Americans were left wondering how the people of New York City could elect a socialist mayor. Despite the countless severe warnings from America’s greatest minds throughout the election cycle, New Yorker’s elected an extreme left socialist with zero experience, who was born in Uganda, to run the largest city in America.
The fact that Mamdani won is a complete embarrassment to New Yorkers and all Americans. Not only is he a radical socialist who is promising government run grocery stores, defunding the police, free buses and universal child care, he has zero experience in local government. His brief career consists of being a New York State Representative and a failed rapper. Seriously, he was a rapper. He also worked on other political campaigns, but the fact is, he has never managed anything.
Let’s put Mamdani’s background aside and focus on the latest example of his decision making skills. As a fallout from Mamdani being elected, the FDNY Commissioner Robert Tucker quit. Tucker, who is Jewish, cited ideological differences with Mamdani, who has stated Israel is committing genocide in Gaza and refuses to say Israel has a right to exists as a Jewish state. All I have to say is, good for you Mr. Tucker.
Now here’s where the circus begins. After Tucker’s resignation, Mamdani announced that he was appointing Lillian Bonsignore as the new FDNY Commissioner. What’s most interesting about Mamdani’s choice is Bonsignore, who worked at the FDNY for over 30 years, was never a firefighter. She was an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and eventually became Chief of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) before she retired in 2022. In case you are unfamiliar with what an EMT does, those are the people who drive an ambulance and respond to medical calls. While it’s an honorable and special line of work, they do not fight fires.
And now, someone who was never a fire fighter, will be leading the largest fire department in the United States.
It’s also worth noting that Bonsignore will be the first openly gay person to hold the role of FDNY Commissioner. When you look at her background, her accomplishments, her sexuality and her sex, it screams DEI hire. It’s pretty obvious that’s what it is, but of course Mamdani is defending his decision and touting her experience and history with the FDNY. It’s a complete joke.
As you can imagine, there is a lot of outrage over Mamdani’s decision. You mean to tell me that there weren't any other viable candidates to run the FDNY other than a retired EMT? The NYFD has 11,000 firefighters. It’s hard to fathom there wasn’t a better, more qualified person to take on such a critical role.
How will the morale at the FDNY be once Bonsignore takes the reins? Do you think she will be respected? Will FDNY employees have confidence in her leadership and knowledge of fighting fires when she has never fought a fire in her entire life? It’s really hard to fathom.
The demise of New York City has begun and Mamdani hasn’t even been sworn in yet. That happens a little before midnight on New Year's Eve. And guess who will be administering the oath of office to Mamdani? New York Attorney General Letitia James. That says it all.
We’ve all seen what happens when radical socialists get power. Nothing good will come of this and we know for certain, the future of New York City is dark and bleak. Just ask the people of Cuba and Venezuela how socialism worked for them. On a positive note, the world will be watching Mamdani destroy New York one day at a time. It will serve as yet another example of what happens when the failed experiment of socialism is attempted again.

Retired firefighter here. Most people don’t know, including the article’s author, that the work of a fire department like NYFD, has changed a lot over the years. Because of local fire and zoning codes and knowledge about fire prevention, fires have become comparatively rare. Now, almost everything a fire department does is respond to accident and medical calls. Only 3-4% of calls are for fighting actual fires nationally. So we’re more of an emergency services department. So, having been focused on that predominant aspect of the job, this nominee would be well-qualified for the leadership post, at least on that basis.
As to her being gay, almost all firefighters I know think that’s irrelevant.
