YDC abuse scam is slowly being exposed

On November 19th, another trial concluded that glaringly exposed the lies and fraud associated with the thousands of YDC abuse claims and subsequent payments accusers have received.
A Hillsborough County jury found Stephen Murphy not guilty on three charges of aggravated sexual assault and the other five aggravated sexual assault charges resulted in a hung jury. Thankfully for Murphy, the jury didn’t believe the preposterous story that David Meehan told under oath.
Meehan, in his usual drug addict, mentally ill fashion, testified about heinous sexual acts allegedly committed by Murphy and other staff members when Meehan was a resident at the Youth Development Center (YDC). The story Meehan chose to tell is so hard to fathom and comprehend, it’s no wonder the jury didn’t believe it.
Since Meehan came forward with his claims of abuse, the State of New Hampshire and tax payers like you and I, have paid out millions of dollars to victims of alleged abuse at YDC. All of these claims are one person’s word versus another. There is no evidence and there are no witnesses. Yet somehow, a decision was made to establish a fund that paid out the alleged “victims”. It’s a story worthy of a Hollywood documentary. Hopefully some day, that will actually happen.
Another interesting aspect of Murphy’s trial was that the week before his trial began, WMUR interviewed Susan Murphy, Stephen Murphy’s wife. During the interview she proclaimed Stephen’s innocence and described in great detail how their lives have been ruined by the ludicrous accusations. Stephen Murphy, who was employed by the Boston Red Sox at the time of his arrest, has dealt with one of the most horrific cases of injustice that I have ever seen in my life.
What’s unique about the WMUR interview is that it was the first time WMUR told the other side of the story. Prior to Susan Murphy’s interview, all of the coverage from WMUR has been about the “victims”, the abuse they allegedly endured, and the lawsuits. Not once did they report on, or consider that there is a high probability that innocent people are being accused and put in prison.
Because of this, I have been tough on WMUR. I have criticized their biased reporting and it’s reassuring to see that they finally woke up and decided to conduct real journalism. I give WMUR a lot of credit. Aside from the Granite Eagle, WMUR is the first NH news outlet that has told the other side of the YDC abuse scam. I applaud them for taking that step and hope they continue to report the truth.
This battle is not over. There are still innocent people David Meehan and others have accused that are sitting in jail. However, Stephen Murphy’s not-guilty verdict is the beginning of saving the lives of those who have been falsely accused. I am confident justice will eventually prevail. And I am confident that karma will eventually greet the former YDC residents who have told lies and ruined the lives of innocent people.
