PLAISTOW— A Timberlane Regional High School English teacher is facing backlash after a social media post in which he said he was "glad" about the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Ed Tinney, who is listed in Timberlane High School’s staff directory as an English teacher, wrote in a Facebook post that circulated Thursday that America has never been a "civil society" and ended the message by saying, “And, yeah, I’m glad he’s dead.”

The post also criticized what Tinney described as systemic discrimination in America, citing poverty, race, gender, and sexuality. “Citizens are killed every day because they’re poor, they’re Black, they’re homeless,” Tinney wrote, before noting he had been fired in a past job “for being gay.”

His remarks drew immediate reaction online, with some commenters supporting his perspective and others condemning it as inappropriate for a teacher.

A request for comment was sent to Timberlane Regional High School regarding Tinney’s employment status.

The comments come amid heightened political tensions following Kirk’s assassination earlier this week. Conservatives have argued that incidents of political violence disproportionately target figures on the right, pointing to recent attacks on Republican leaders.
